As time has gone by more information has become available in the public domain and this is now offering alternatives to the official government sites for finding information on your council tax band and annual charge.
The official way to check your band
The official government site – here – will show you the information but it’s long-winded. You have to find your council tax band and then view the website of your local authority to discover the annual charge for your band.
The better way to check your band
There are now several websites available where a person can find their council tax band and their charge online. This can be done for free without all of the hassle of using the government site:
These sites can’t tell you what your instalments will be, those will be shown on your demand notice, but it’s a great way of finding out how much you will be paying. One other point to bear in mind is that these amounts do not include any discount or exemption you may be entitled to.
